City of Arlington Dispatch Services

Submitted by Alexandrea Grovenburg

Arlington dispatch is a centralized dispatch center that answers all 911 and 10 digit number calls for police, fire and ambulance service. Our center serves the City of Arlington, Texas with an approximate population of 392,772. The goal of Dispatch Services is to answer 90% of all calls within 10 seconds or less. We prepare our call takers to handle all calls for service involving police, fire and medical personnel during their initial training academy as well as during on the job training.  In addition, call takers are instructed through specialized training that consists of CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certifications, enabling them to give life saving instructions until help arrives.

Arlington dispatch has roughly 120 employees. During times of need (as shown in the picture) we come together to support our peers. One of our veteran call takers was diagnosed with breast cancer. We surprised her with a “Pink Out” day as well as donated money and decorated our center.  We strive to come together and treat each other as family. Lift each other up in our times of need. Often, we are called silent hero’s that sometimes are forgotten. We strive to be heard and brag about not only how hard we work, but also about being human. Tragedy hits us and sometimes we rely on our brothers and sisters in gold to get us through it. We celebrate our triumphs and come together in our times of need.
