Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center

Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center successfully hosted the NCAA Final Four basketball championship this year—accommodating not only the remaining four basketball teams from different cities, but also their fans, news/media outlets, extra public safety and security agencies, as well as our own Minneapolis city population that we serve every day. We really stepped up as a team with the additional duties on top of our daily workload, staffing various offsite locations to ensure safety, while providing fun events for the public to participate in: Fan Fest at the convention center and Tip-Off Tailgate on Nicollet Mall to name a few.

Furthermore, MECC managed to also create excitement in our own center amid the chaos by creating contests and Final Four-related activities for the employees to partake in during our supplementary responsibilities. Though taxing at times and very busy, operations were seamless and Minneapolis presented yet another successful event in our city, just one short year after hosting Super Bowl LII. This is one of many examples demonstrating how well our team works together in heightened situations, and therefore makes us great.
