Each Call Could Mean a Life

Misty Cain, Dispatcher, Sumter EMS

Many years ago I started this journey, a journey to become an underappreciated seldom seen very important part of emergency services. I had only called 9-1-1 once in my life, that was the day three men robbed me at gunpoint while working at a convenience store. I never really understood what the person who answered my call went through during that moment, I was hysterical. Now I am honored to don my headset and go to work in the same field. I know each time I answer the phone that there is an opportunity to make a difference, an impact or perhaps to save a life. Being a Public Safety Telecommunicator is the opportunity to serve my community and to give back all I can.
