Telecommunicators already have the superpower of understanding callers when they are unable to speak clearly. Whether it’s because of a speech impediment, mumbling, crying or thick accents, telecommunicators manage to understand some of the most difficult of calls. What would be even more helpful and one we could use is the ability to understand and speak any language. Or at least understand any language and when we talk back, they understand us no matter what language we speak. Attempting to get the language line on the phone to translate is time consuming and not always productive. I’ve had my fair share of translators that do not have the same sense of urgency and do not always translate what was said clearly. I’d rather fumble through a caller that doesn’t speak English very well before getting a interpreter.
