The Voice On the Line
It takes a special strength and resilience to do what our emergency dispatchers do. Every day I see our operators take control of serious, sometimes life-threatening situations using just a telephone and a radio. They listen to people in distress, yet I see and hear them remain composed and focussed. They’re the calming voice on the line for someone who is experiencing the worst day of their life. They give instructions that make a difference and they send help where it’s needed. To them, it’s just “doing the job”. To someone else, they’re the lifeline; the FIRST first responder to an emergency. Their compassion, professionalism, and dedication are displayed in every interaction. They may never see your faces, but they will always hear your caring voices.
